What to Expect
Taking the first step is often the hardest part. Here’s exactly what happens next.
A Clear Path Forward
Getting started with therapy can feel daunting, especially if you’ve never done it before. We want you to know what to expect so the process feels as straightforward as possible.
Ready to reach out? Start here:
What the First Call Is Like
When our Client Care Coordinator reaches out, the call is brief — usually 10 to 15 minutes. They’ll ask a few simple questions to understand what you’re looking for: the type of support you need, your availability, your location preferences, and whether you’re using insurance.
This call is not a therapy session. It’s just a conversation to help us match you with the right person. There’s no pressure, no wrong answers, and nothing you need to prepare.
We respond to new inquiries within one business day.
What Your First Session Is Like
Your first session is typically a getting-to-know-you conversation. Your therapist will want to understand your story, what brought you in, and what you’re hoping to work on. You don’t need to know exactly what to say — they’ll guide the conversation.
Sessions are approximately 50 minutes. You can meet in person at any of our Virginia locations or virtually throughout Virginia.
After your first session, you and your therapist will begin shaping a treatment plan together. Therapy is a collaborative process — you’re always in the driver’s seat.
Common Questions Before Getting Started
We respond within 1 business day and work to schedule your first appointment as quickly as possible. Clients with daytime or virtual availability tend to get scheduled sooner.
We accept most major insurance plans. Our team will verify your benefits before your first session. Learn more about Insurance & Payment
Finding the right fit matters — and we take it seriously. If at any time you feel the match isn’t quite right, just let us know and we’ll help you find someone better suited to your needs.
That’s a completely normal feeling. Our client care coordinators are happy to talk through whether therapy might be helpful before you commit to anything. There’s no pressure to book — just reach out and we can have a conversation.
