Neurodivergence and ADHD Therapy in Richmond, Williamsburg, Newport News, and Virtually Throughout Virginia
Your brain works differently. That is not a problem to fix.
Neurodivergent people, including those with ADHD, autism spectrum disorder, and related profiles, often spend years trying to fit into systems and environments that were not built for how their brains work. Many have also spent years feeling misunderstood by the very providers they turned to for help.
Therapy at ALP can be a space where you don’t have to mask, explain yourself, or work toward becoming someone you’re not. Whether you are newly diagnosed, exploring whether a diagnosis fits your experience, or simply looking for a therapist who genuinely understands neurodivergence, you’re in the right place.
Who We Work With
We work with children, teens, and adults who are experiencing:
- ADHD — attention, focus, impulsivity, and executive function challenges
- Autism spectrum and related social and sensory experiences
- Twice-exceptionality (gifted and learning differences)
- Anxiety and depression that often co-occur with neurodivergence
- Burnout from masking and the effort of navigating neurotypical environments
- Relationship challenges connected to neurodivergent traits
Our Approach
We don’t approach neurodivergence as a deficit to correct. Our therapists take a strengths-based, affirming approach — one that starts with understanding how your brain actually works and builds from there. We recognize that culture, environment, and systems shape your experience just as much as neurology does, and we hold all of that in the room.
That might mean developing strategies for executive function, working through burnout from years of masking, processing the impact of care that didn’t honor who you are, or simply having a space where your experiences finally make sense.
Our therapists draw on evidence-based approaches including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), adapted as needed for neurodivergent clients.
