Faith-Based Therapy in Richmond, Williamsburg, Newport News, and Virtually Throughout Virginia
What Is Faith-Based Therapy?
For some people, the most natural place to seek help is within a religious framework. When faith shapes how you understand yourself, your relationships, and your purpose, it makes sense to want that part of your life present in the therapy room — not set aside at the door.
Faith-based therapy, sometimes called faith-based counseling, integrates your faith into the clinical process. That might include drawing on spiritual texts, prayer, and a shared belief that healing involves the whole person — spiritually, emotionally, and relationally. It is grounded in the understanding that faith is not separate from mental health but deeply connected to it.
Our faith-based therapists are mental health clinicians first, trained in evidence-based approaches alongside their religious orientation. They bring a wide range of clinical tools to their work, and they bring their faith. You don’t have to choose between the two.
This is not pastoral counseling or a replacement for your faith community. It is professional mental health care that takes your faith seriously.
Who This Is For
Faith-based therapy may be especially helpful if faith plays an important role in your everyday life, if you are navigating struggles that feel spiritually significant — questions of purpose, meaning, grief, relationship, or identity — or if you simply feel more comfortable opening up to someone who shares your worldview and values.
It is one of several approaches available at Abundant Life Partners — not the only one, and not the default. Not all of our therapists practice from a faith-based framework, and that is by design. We believe the right fit matters more than any single approach.
Clients of any faith background are welcome at ALP. We will always work with you to find a therapist whose approach, values, and background are the right match for where you are.
If you are looking for a therapist who understands your spiritual life as a meaningful part of who you are — not something to manage around, but something to bring into the work — we can help you find that.
