Therapy for Anxiety and Depression in Richmond, Williamsburg, Newport News, and Virtually Throughout Virginia
You deserve to feel like yourself again. We can help.
You’ve been keeping it together. Showing up, doing what needs to be done, pushing through. But underneath all of it, something doesn’t feel right, and it hasn’t for a while. Maybe it’s a worry that never fully quiets, or ruminating thoughts that wake you up at night. A heaviness that follows you throughout the day. A version of yourself you remember but can’t quite get back to.
Anxiety and depression are two of the most common reasons people reach out for therapy. You may be experiencing one or both, and you may have been living with them long enough that they feel like part of who you are. They are not.
Whatever you’re carrying, you don’t have to keep carrying it alone.
Understanding Anxiety
Anxiety isn’t weakness. It’s your nervous system doing its job — until it starts doing that job around the clock, in situations where the threat isn’t real or isn’t yours to solve.
When anxiety becomes chronic, it touches everything. Your sleep. Your relationships. The way you move through a day. It can look like constant low-grade worry you can’t turn off, physical tension you’ve stopped noticing because it’s always there, an impulse to avoid anything that might make things worse, or panic that arrives without warning.
Anxiety shows up differently for everyone — generalized worry, social anxiety, panic attacks, specific fears. The shape varies. What stays the same is how exhausting it is to endure.
What would your life look like if you weren’t nervous or afraid?
Understanding Depression
Depression doesn’t always look like sadness. Sometimes it looks like going through the motions — doing everything you’re supposed to do while feeling disconnected from all of it. Numbness where you expected to feel something. Irritability. A quiet disappearance of the things that used to matter.
Some people describe it as a fog. Others as a weight. Many people live with it for years without naming it, because they can still function, just not fully or freely.
Depression is not a character flaw or a failure of effort. It is a condition with real roots and real treatment options, and the fact that you’re here looking for support is already a meaningful step.
Our Approach
A lot of people come to therapy hoping to get rid of the hard feelings. The anxiety, the heaviness, the thoughts that won’t stop. That’s a completely understandable goal.
What good therapy tends to offer is something a little different. Not the elimination of every difficult feeling, but a changed relationship with them where they’re no longer running the show. Where you can notice what you’re experiencing without being swept away by it. Where the life and the people that matter to you start taking up more space than the worry or the weight.
Your therapist will work with you to understand what’s driving what you’re experiencing and find an approach — whether that’s CBT, DBT, or something else — that fits your life and your goals. That’s the abundant life we believe you were made for. We’ll find the path together.
